September 16th Program: Pine River Communiity Learning Center

The Pine River Communiity Learning Center has its main office in Ignacio, with a satellite in Bayfield. Luri Owens is in charge of the Bayfield office and presented her program about the Center.

They strive to provide educational opportunities for anyone in the Service area…There are no restrictions on age, gender or anything else. If you want to learn something, they will try to get it done.

GED programs are offered ongoing, tailored to meet the needs of the individualstudent. For instance if a student already knows a subject, there is no sense making that student go through a class all over again. By the way, Trigonometry is now required for a GED. There is a testing and curriculum program developed that fits a learning format to each person individually. Like we were taught could happenby B.F. Skinner. Boy that was a while ago!

Fundraisingis: anything goes: bake sales, car washes, 503 C3, Feds, State, County andLocals.

Twelve staff members also provide home schooling support in areas like music, science, languages, and even Home Schooling Court. And have a preparation program for home schoolers to be ready to adapt to real school.
Grown up education courses are offered in budgeting, resumes, bill paying, account balancing, math, computer literacy (new in September) and more.

Thanks Luri!!!
